Spur of the moment adventure to a book fair

I was really planning to go to this year's Manila International Book Fair @ the SMX, Mall of Asia
over the weekend with my sis and cousin - but instead I headed off to the book fair right after work Friday, after I discovered that my officemates were heading there too with their family! Hitch a free ride too why not?! haha Had to take advantage of the group pass we got from our school library anyway so we went...

We had few hours till closing time and were able to buy a few books...
but personally I only had one book in mind - the paperback version of One Day by David Nicholls... And after quickly running down a few aisles, I went back to the National Bookstore and spent most of my time there... I can't find the book and I just had to ask the cashier - bummer! No One Day! Grrrrr! In between fuming over that miss, I bumped into Romaiel of Twilight Coven Philippines and chatted up a bit about The Hunger Games and Mockingjay, I still was eager to buy at least one book from the booth...and so I ended up buying this!

I have his complete books I believe and this one is Mitch Albom's latest

It's so cool and tiny it could really fit inside my bag!

I still had time to spare and saw this booth with a crowd milling around it. Their books and items were being sold at P99! So why not? I might just buy something from there...And I did!

Doesn't seem like me huh? haha

and No! it's not buy one take one either but P99 each!

On to the booth across this one, which also sells books at P99 and some cute colorful journals... My eye was caught by this colorful candy colored book

I don't care that it's for teens!
I just bought this one because it's GREEN!
(Hey that rhymes! haha)

To know more about the author Melody Carlson
and her True Color series

After meeting up with my officemates and hearing the announcement that the exhibit will be closing already for the night, we headed out and looked for some place else to eat.
We crossed to MOA, which had lots of people - expected of course since it was on a 3-day weekend sale... And I saw that Fullybooked was having a sale of their own too!
I really had to take the chance and look for One Day...

and my search was over!

I don't care even if I bought the more expensive paperback version! haha

Wow! I wonder when I'll get to finish reading all of these new books of mine (incidentally I'm still not done reading Eat, Pray,Love and the movie will be showing soon! Gah!) Oh well! There's no time limit...It's no contest anyway... What's nice about having books on hand is that you can always go back to them whenever the mood strikes you... So yeah I expect to be busy reading these books (it's better than watching TV which I seldom do anyway haha)

Till the next book fair!

Let's play: photo caption

Me and my officemate - well my kumare now - were going through these photos from her son YM's (that's Yohan Marcus to everybody else except me) baptism last August 14, and she was kinda griping (all in jest of course) about the fact that among the set of photos taken during that day - me and my inaanak's photo is the one she liked! She even kidded that I look like the mom! I don't know whether to be annoyed or simply laugh it all off and thank the powers of digital photography! Haha

Well I can think of some other photo caption for the next one...
something to the effect of...

Me + British/American/White boy = Even whiter cute kid

haha

Now let me go find me a white boy!

Can you think of a caption for this one?

Let me tell you that there were lots of people
trying to get the kids
to look at the right cam...
though even the moms were confused!
haha

It used to be Wed/Thursdays, now it's Friday or Saturday

I've been MIA lately in gimmicks. It's either one of 2 things - no time and no spending money - most often it's both to my chagrin! But I'm glad to say that I always find the time and ways to meet up with friends as much as I can...

2 weeks ago, we had Friday off in school to celebrate our school president's birthday with the usual party and eating in Seton

me and my colleagues in the Guidance Unit

That Saturday, I met up with mJ, Joy and Katek! I miss these guys and twas fun catching up! And as expected we did the catching up over dining and Starbucks and picture taking in between

with Ching, mJ, Joy, katek and kiks
(thanks to Joy's Labidabs for taking this photo)

aside from mJ - I really REALLY missed my Starbucks! haha

Another group of dear friends that I miss too are my Psychos buddies! Fortunately for us Misty took my usual role of "getogether organizer" and contacted each one of us and set it on the first Friday of September - in Ortigas! Huwat?! Not again! haha But of course it would be to their advantage - Misty who works near Tiendesitas, Gutz who will come from the Fort, Jojoyce from Makati, Za from Manila, Aids who works in Ortigas too (but didn't show up coz he was sick! yah right! haha) and Tzi all the way from Navotas (due to unfortunate circumstances at work was unable to leave too) - waaaaa I'm the only one from down South! If it not for the free ride home (3 of us live down south anyway), I would hesitate from heading for another Ortigas adventure

Add to that - I left straight from work and was welcomed by a downpour when I got down in Megamall! You know the Aegis song...eto ako basang basa sa ulan...walang masisilungan? - good thing I had my trusty umbrella with me coz i had to walk from megamall to Home Depot down in J. Vargas street - I always do since it's faster than riding a taxi or what...

For the first time? no pictures for this getogether! ha! Misty forgot her digicam!
Haha oh well, we enjoyed catching up and gossiping anyway...talking about Babies and Beaver! Say who?! What? haha

So instead of photos, I'd just share the link of the resto where we ate at citywalk, I mean metrodepot...no wait! it's Home Depot! haha

Jay-J's Inasal at Home Depot with branches in
Timog Ave., Congressional Ave. and even in Macapagal Ave.

Now this week end, it's another Friday holiday! Muslim holiday - end of Ramadan...and for us it's my little cousin Alyanna's 10th birthday! 10 years old on September 10! Cool! We're heading up to their house for dinner...then tomorrow, it's my sis Kisan's birthday! We might just celebrate it by stalking the RAIN concert in MOA! haha

Wonder if we'll get photos from this long holiday weekend....

One Day, Anne had a haircut for a movie

It was all triggered by this recent headline I saw while browsing the internet gossip sites - if I'm not mistaken it was thru Twitter:

The 27-year-old actor has always been a hair trendsetter, having gone from long layers to the Lob (aka the "long bob") in recent years. But this time, she followed the lead of freshly pixied starlets like Emma Watson, who stunned the world earlier this month when she announced via Twitter that she'd gotten a new gamine haircut.

The star hid her tresses under a wig for her new film role.
(this picture is a great version coz now I see what the "sign" says)

Film role??? After checking other websites and links, I read that the film is a movie adaptation of ONE DAY by David Nicholls... Where did I hear that before? Wait! I do believe mJ mentioned something like that...and yup...after wracking my brain, I recalled this was one of the books she recommended and was planning to buy the last time we - mJ, ej and moi - were on a book excursion of sorts! haha...

Initially I too was enticed by the simple byline... Twenty Years, Two People...they meet up one day each year all those twenty years - gah! that is one long relationship huh... Wonder what kind? What would happen to them... dundundundun! haha

So there that triggered it! I blame it all on ANNE! haha

and also I have this penchant for reading the books first before watching the movie adaptation - esp if I hear good reviews about the movie - so that I won't get that disappointed when I watch the movie coz I know I enjoyed the book first - twisted logic? well it works for me... (that reminds me I haven't finished Eat Pray Love yet haha)

I downloaded the ebook - oops sorry! - it was in pub file so had to search for a different type of mobile reader for it! nyahaha...

After sharing it with my "book excursion clubmates" haha, after receiving "rave reviews" from mJ who quickly finished reading it... voila! done reading it too last weekend!

Annnnddddd.....
NO SPOILERS HERE!!!

I loved it too!
You know what... my gauge for me to know that I really loved reading a book is when I
get so affected by the characters in the book I'm reading...
GAH! I can surely relate with most of the scenes! Goodness gracious!
I don't know whether to be frustrated or to be dumbfounded because of the scenarios!
The book has a wicked sense of humor and from the most unlikely characters too!
And see... I still can't get over it... and had to blog about it too!

So yeah I do believe I'll buy my book copy of this one...
before a new "movie book cover" comes out...

Now that raises the expectation for the movie adaptation - but hey! Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess? I bet it would be good...

So I give this: 4 STARS and a Polaroid shot!
