Approx. 2,400 blood bags were collected the last time we had our bloodletting event...

Today, Dugtong Buhay 7 garnered approx. 3,015 blood bags!

And we still have 2 days more in our South Campus :)

chronicling my firsts (1st of a series)

When I got my Starbucks Coffee 2011 planner I was excited to have a new one after 2 years since the last time I availed of it... but now with all the journal writing I've been doing online and in a little notebook I have at home and on my iPod's Notes, I'm sort of neglecting this planner of mine haha... Too bad I've already started writing a few entries if not I would have given it as a gift! haha

I'm now a little stumped on what else I could write there aside form the usual reminders of events, meetings and birthdays... I first thought of listing down the movies I would be watching this year - but since I'm not really an avid fan of the movie theater - thanks to torrent and online streaming haha I shot down that idea... So now I ended up doing what my friend suggested...why not write down "my firsts" (or even those things I haven't been to, done or seen in a long while)

My good friend Dana - who is one of the 2 people who still call me by my old name! - was in Manila for a short vacation... and as expected of a balikbayan, her schedule is full with reunions and kitakits with close friends and classmates...

Good thing she was able to squeeze in a meet-up with a few gradeschool batch mates - after - aghast! arriving straight from her trip to Coron! and she was to leave for the US in 2 days! GAH! She really maximized her time haha

August is Filipino Month

As much as I would want to be true to the observance of Filipino Week (Month) and write this post in complete Filipino - I can't do it! I really am more expressive in English and I'm not a telenovela addict anyway so I wouldn't know what's the common convo nowadays! At least I still use my "po" and "opo"!

Last August 24, we had our annual KAMPISE during our Filipino Week,

where everyone in school had to come in native Filipino attire.

We, in our office thought of coming in rural attire -

the kimona, baro't saya, think of rural farmers for the boys

When I mean everyone in Seton - I meant everyone!

Even my Korean intern was not spared!

He's seen here tagging along with a nursery student

during the preschool students' parade around school.

Aren't they all cute?!

They're seen here gathered around their "hapag kainan"

as they say their prayers before meals

Our KAMPISE is all about "pistahan" and "pagsasalo" and most of all FOOD!

It was a good thing we passed by the preschool

and saw all these cute kids!

We helped out dishing out their food too!

But as expected there was the cutest of all....

Me and my colleague wanted to bring her home! haha

Valentine's Day in Seton

For around 4 or 5 years now, Teachers & Staff Day has been celebrated

during the Valentine season in Seton.

So for this year, last February 12, we just had a few games -

cook off, memory game, and a few pool games

Everyone was divided into teams -

Green, yellow -high school teachers,

Red & orange for grade school teachers

and purple and blue for the staff.

I was part of the PURPLE TEAM...

honestly I don't think it goes well with my skin LOL!

What I enjoyed in particular are the gifts

the Student Council gave us this year -

they gave us shirts with

I LIVE TO SERVE

Former President Cory Aquino was awarded the Elizabeth Seton Medal

The HS students of Elizabeth Seton School main campus in Las Piñas City (will) visit the grave of Former President Cory Aquino at Manila Memorial Park today and tomorrow.

I accompanied my first year HS students this morning and we said a prayer for her...And we also discovered that Tita Cory was awarded the Elizabeth Seton Medal by the College of Mount Saint Vincent. The College of Mount Saint Vincent was founded by the Sisters of Charity of New York, the same congregation founded by St. Elizabeth Seton. The college is actually inspired by the spirit of St. Vincent de Paul and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Cory Aquino graduated from this college in 1953 and when she returned to the US as president, she received the College's highest honor - The Elizabeth Seton Medal. (Incidentally, the Elizabeth Seton Medal is also given as the highest honor to a graduating HS student in ESS)

And together with the whole nation and the rest of world, the College of Mount Saint Vincent mourns the death of the former president.

8/3/2009 - The College of Mount Saint Vincent mourns the death and celebrates the life of our alumna, the Hon. Corazon Cojuangco Aquino, former President of the Philippines.

Corazon Aquino graduated from the College of Mount Saint Vincent in 1953. She earned a major in French and a minor in Mathematics and later studied law at Far Eastern University in Manila. She was the first female President of the Philippines and Asia’s first female President, serving from 1986 to 1992...

...There are heroic figures in history. Corazon Aquino is one of them. The College of Mount Saint Vincent is very proud to have been an influence in her life, and she was unwavering in her affection for the College. She returned to Mount Saint Vincent to receive the Doctor of Humane Letters honoris causa, to be honored with the College’s Saint Vincent de Paul Award at the annual Scholarship Tribute Dinner, and to receive the College’s highest honor, The Elizabeth Seton Medal.

Corazon Aquino will be rightly memorialized in many ways, but we know that, in her humility, she would be most honored by those who seek to emulate her virtues.
