i never knew old songs were that cheesy

Been listening to standards and old songs (constantly) since yesterday...and while I really don't listen to the lyrics that much...I can't help but listen to what the singers are trying to convey....and yuck! ang cheesy naman tlga nila hahaha...di ko alam na ganun pala tayo magisip...just imagine...a suitor sprouting out lines from these songs when they are courting you...wait! uso pa ba yun?! ang pangliligaw I mean... wahaha

"what do we mean to each other...am i friend or a lover...is it over now?"

"Pls. don't ask me what am I thinking..."
Well...how should I know if I don't ask?...feeling nito psychic ako...

"because i'd still say yes...to you again...my darling for you I'd do it all again"
Obviously this song is for the martyrs haha

"if i'd come on too strong...I hope that you'd understand...and if you'd mind sharing the night together"

"wherever you go...whatever you do...i will be right here waiting for you..."
OMG! eto ang martir!...kanta ng mga matatandang dalaga hahaha... right here waiting huh...sige lang...bumalik ka at may utang ka pa sakin! hayup!

random thoughts on singing, song lyrics and the videoke

"Whenever I see your smiling face...I have to smile myself...because I...."
This line...from this song I can't remember the title haha... was running through my head this morning when I woke up...for no apparent reason but of course I ended up thinking why...
And then I thought... do people do that?...you know smile automatically when someone smiles at them...

I honestly don't...especially if it's a stranger or the face ain't familiar...
Malay ko ba stalker pala yun or magnanakaw or kung ano pa...it might give him ideas if I smile back bwahaha

I see this post of my ex-partner Katek...about Connie Talbot...from Britain's Got Talent (the reality show) and oh my can the girl sing...goose bumps...she sang Somewhere Over the Rainbow...so pure ha and so...inspiring haha...
I think she now has her own album...and oh...she was 6 yrs old when she joined the contest. (Paul Potts won that contest)

*****

Somewhere over the rainbow...bluebirds fly....

I avidly watch American Idol...and last week was "inspirational theme week"...so the contestants chose songs that inspired them...from Dream On by Aerosmith to I Believe by Fantasia...to this very familiar song Somewhere Over the Rainbow, sung by Jason Castro (AI finalist) while strumming a ukelele...and the judges thought it was one of the best versions of the song...there are many versions of that song and he did the one by this artist (of course I forget the name) who sang it with his ukelele...

Then that reminded me of the movie with the same song version...50 First Dates...in which scene was it playing in the background?

Can you give me another movie where the song Somewhere Over the Rainbow was playing as part of the movie (at the end of the movie to be exact)?...stars Sean Connery...it's about a reclusive author...it's quite endearing and inspirational too...go watch it... Figure out first the title then buy the video hahaha...

*****

Do you remember this game...wherein someone sings from a videoke machine...and if you're out of tune...a gong sounds...sort of telling you: YOU'RE OUT OF THE GAME! I forgot what show or where I saw that....
Then I was thinking...instead of a gong...why not just have a big boxing glove spring out of the videoke machine and knockout this out of tune singer hogging the videoke mic...

That one's for you Manny! hahahaha

*****

I miss going to a videoke myself...the last time I was with my Ma's former officemates (me and my sis hardly sang that night)...and yup they were all singing 70s, 80s tunes...Matt Monro songs (who?!)...a good thing they didn't sing the quintessential My Way (oh my the neighbors would be furious)...but they did sing ... Impossible Dream...wahahaha...

I remembered that I so missed doing that with my own barkada - the last one I can recall was when I was with my hs barkada...when we were still in college...oh and I remember the latest was at a friend's bday party just last January (I didn't sing I let them sing coz they were belters!) - I ended up texting this new kakulitan friend of mine and just simply told her...Pwede ba susunod na gimik natin videoke naman hahaha

Like yah I would sing...duh! I can't carry a tune...I'd just sit back and laugh at the others while imagining them being punched out by this big boxing glove for being such a second rate trying hard copycat bwahahaha

*****

My dad once told us this story (looking back I don't know whether he did experience this or it was just a concocted story)...

He was at this resto or bar with his officemates...and there was this videoke and anyone is free to get the mic and sing...so after a lot of singing the usual 80s tunes and famous 90s songs I think...my dad had the courage to go up to the mic and punchin a song...and he chose one of the more famous 60s songs (I really can't remember if he told us the tile but I know it was an old song)...but basically it was an old song...which caught the audience' attention...as my dad was singing along (my dad can carry a tune mind you)...he noticed that the crowd was quietly listening unlike what they were doing earlier when others were singing at the mic...they were rowdy, clapping and singing along...but with him they were quiet...maybe because they did not know the song...it was so unfamiliar to them...hahaha...

then as the last notes of the song faded...the audience was silent...dumbfounded I guess...and then my Dad goes: Gusto nyo pa?

gigs I've been to lately

Just wanted to share some pics of my many gigs...haha...as if I was the one performing nyaha...

random thoughts on people, about people and on some people

I can never tell or guess a person's age...esp nowadays...this generation...the younger ones look mature for their age...some of my kids, aside from them being bigger than me, they look more mature now unlike when I was their age....grabe inosente ako noon...sila ngayon di na ata haha...
and what amazes me more is when I discover great talent in young people...I don't know but I think I get to correlate age with talent...the older you get...the better you are or should be...hey! biased noh?! so ibig sabihin di na talented ang mas bata? haha...
well these guys proved me wrong...

I give you just one chance to guess their ages haha

*****

speaking of age...I'm getting old haha...

another one just admitted to me that yup she is old...

and there are just some people that despite their age...they still remain the same...or what i mean is...they still look the same...

case in point: we just came from Batangas (last Sunday, April 13)...and my Ma had a mini reunion with her old officemates from IBAA (which became PCIBank back then)...another officemate was here for a vacation from Australia where they are now based...and of course they grabbed the opportunity to get together...and there at Batangas syempre what do you expect?...kulitan! kwentuhan kainan!...wasn't able to determine how long they've been officemates...but I know them long before...since a few of them were our godparents...so anyway...they still look quite the same...just a different style haircut...or a few or more white hair here and there...still the same fashion sense...still the same sense of humor...grabe sila maglaglagan ha! walang pakundangan sa pang-aasar at panlalait!...kaming mga anak na sinama dun (5 kaming "bata" dun, pero twentysomething na rin) natatawa na lang sa kanilang pag reminsce at pangangantyaw sa isa't isa...

I wonder if I would maintain close relationships with my current workmates?...

*****

speaking of work...
hay naku ... i don't know how we guys do it...working on a few hours of sleep we were still able to pull off another open house in Seton...wohoo!
as usual...crammer na naman ako!
I was out the night before diba?...I knew I was assigned to discuss one topic...pero as in I did not prepare for it...
just around hmmmm...roughly an hour before my part started...

I was pacing back and forth in the backstage trying to rehearse...what rehearse?! eh wala nga akong script na ginawa! hanep sa spontaneous! ewan ko ba...mas gusto ko ata nasstressed out ako sa ganun...

sabi naman nila ok naman naging kinalabasan...I do remember I did not end my spiel...I mean I just gave a one liner and left the stage....di man lang nag thank you?! haha...buti na lang naka post na yung "thank you" sa slide na gamit ko...

hanep!

wag tularan! haha

*****

one teacher greeted me before the program started last Saturday...I think she had nothing else to say but commented on my pants...

"Nakakatuwa ka Kit...ang ganda ng pantalon mo...nakaplantsa..."
"Po? Hindi ba po pinaplantsa ang pantalon?"
"Hindi diba ang pantalon nde naman pinaplantsa...pero as if naman alam mo eh alam ko di ikaw ang nagpaplantsa..."
Heheheh (cue embarrassed laughter)

I can't help but look down at my pants and see what's wrong with it...so what if it has pleats ironed on it...isn't that the way it is?!

I get quite irritated when my name is misspelled...who wouldn't?...
If you heard me give you my name for the first time...how would you spell it?

I know...I bet you might spell it this way too

if I remember correctly...that happened to me at Starbucks twice I guess...and those were the times when I didn't see fit to spell it to the barista...

oh well...

*****

I remembered reading this post by my "ex-partner" Katek about cross cultural habits....
one post there was the comment about us Pinoys...saying goodbye...but would take us so long to actually leave the place...

*****

I am shocked...amazed...dumbfounded even...that there are people who are so sweet and thoughtful...unlike me! haha

this new girl I just met last Friday...her name is Olivia by the way...this effervescent and bubbly lady chatted us up once she took her seat at our reserved table in the Red Crab resto...I knew she knows Jeff and was waiting for a cue from Jeff to at least introduce me to her right...and then she turns to me and goes..."Hi Kit sorry ha...." yada yada yada...i quite forgot what she said next coz she was so hyper haha....and I turned to my seatmate Jeff and exclaimed...kilala nya ko?!
"Oo naman kasi diba sa multiply..."
onga naman...

and dig this...ano ba! di ko birthday...at alam ko ang recent lang nagbday nun ay si Joy...at si JT....tapos malapit na rin bday nun ni mJ...so walang nagcelebrate ng bday so walang dahilan kung bakit sya maglalabas ng rabbit out of a hat na parang magician...

"Pakana mo toh mJ noh?!"

"Hindi ah...sya may gusto nyan!"

Thanks so much Olivia...and you need not bother really...

I now have two of them haha

music appreciation lessons @ The Red Crab's Seafood Club

I would never expect that a restaurant like Red Crab's Seafood Club would have a grand white piano in the midst of all the diners (and the pianist was wearing white and the other soloist too)...
Well honestly it's my first time in that resto...and besides I wouldn't know much about the restos in that whole stretch of Greenbelt 3 coz I don't frequent the place that much...baka pala lahat na ng restos dun may free-for-all-jamming na pala haha...
Now this is my first time to hear this new pop jazz artist Olivia (http://ultimateolivia.multiply.com) perform live to be exact...coz I already have her cd and have been listening to it...but I can't quite recall though if she was the one I was referring to when I said or mentioned it to (mJ I think)...it's (her style) an acquired taste...
Anyway...I was prepared to be...hmmm proven wrong?...or maybe I was expecting to be impressed by this kid...and yup! she's young huh....her kakulitan that night was a true testament to her kakikayan sobra!

Before I give my "review' of her performance...let me just give you an overview of the playlist that night...the songs that the very limited piano player can do hehe...
as always thanks to mJ for this=>

SittiZen Angel on the piano...with Olivia singing Say A Little Prayer (medyo parang mabilis tempo ni Angel kaya parang naghahabol si Olivia...but hey! jamming naman diba),

Lullaby of Birdland, Dream a Little Dream (this French song by Ella Fitzgerald), This Girl's in Love with you (Pare! haha),

Duets with Caezar - You, Umagang Kay Ganda & Bakit Ngayon Ka Lang;

Girl from Ipanema, Like a Lover, The Prayer, Loving You (OMG! she hit the high notes AMAZINGLY!), All Behind Us now, Sweet Baby (the last few songs of the night were all with minus one accompaniment, kainis na ang pianista nito eh haha, na feeling ko ay pirated kasi panay talon ng cd! haha joke lang! pero pangit ung audio nila ha)...and of course Just the Two of Us (I forgot the other songs if ever I missed anymore hehe)

So what do I think of her live performance?... I give her credit for maintaning her poise despite the fumbles of the pianist (blame it on the piano player why doncha! hehe)...what do you expect? the people at the resto did not know who was going to jam with them...and of course...harmony is not only with music and lyrics and all that...it is also in the tandem...between singer and (backup) musician...so it was glaringly obvious that they did not have chemistry haha...but they were able to amaze this foreigner who was dining at the resto...he generously gave tips to both Olivia and the pianist hehe...

Ok so I would have to say I can not give a credible or appropriate judgment on how Olivia performed...of course her voice was beautiful...esp. when she sang Loving You! shucks! the goose bumps! but I'd like to be able to judge the whole package so to speak...but I can give points to her "kakikayan" on stage...it was clear that she was having fun... "Kuya pde po ba B flat?" ..."Caezar papilit ka naman"... such spontaneity and charisma will endear her to her audience...though her shyness hinders her at times from chatting with the crowd...she mostly kidded around with us and not much with the other diners (there wasn't much to speak of anyway haha)...

and her makulit na PR had to give her instructions most of the time...

so I can give her a rating of...hmmm... 6 out 8...

kainis lang talaga yung pinanista eh tapos tinopak pa yung cd haha...

I do believe I need to watch her perform live again

Oh My Gulay!
Veggie Cocktail Drink

"Kumain Ka Na Ba?"
I remembered I ranted about this "question" and how to properly answer it without embarrassing yourself, a few weeks ago...
Sabi nga ng isang friend ko...while complicate the uncomplicated?...

The Veggie Diet Plate

"Kumain na kayo...sige na"

When I headed back to the resto...I saw my friends lining up at the buffet table...
According to right manners and good conduct! Naks!...the usual behavior of Pinoys...from what I observe...we usually refuse - initially - when we are being offered food...
And all those excuses that we give...

The Fitness Regimen Plate

Kaya yun...
I had another heavy dinner waaaa!

The After "6" Plate

unappetizing ain't it?

I was full already coz I had a drink of my usual Starbucks fave coffee before heading off to the resto...
Oh well...at least my friends were able to dig in haha...
Maybe I'm just not really used to eating buffet style...
Nakakaumay kasi talaga yung dami ng pagkain eh...hehehe

Will try one of these next time

the heel-less shoe - another misadventure in Makati

I knew it!...shoes that are cheaper than P500 is not durable to say the least...my OLD boots is a testament to that...I bought it on sale late last year...sort of a buy one take one thing (OMG! i have another pair at home na baka maging kaparehas lang ang mangyari)...and i thought hmmm let's see how long this will last...

Goodness! nasira na tlga sya kanina lang! (April 11, Friday, pa toh though I just posted this here today) busit talaga! wala na akong boots na matino! buti pa yung Rusty Lopez ko...matagal tagal ko nagamit bago nasira yung heel nya as in sulit yun..kaysa dito sa busit na boots ko...

So embarrassing...I was in this elite resto in Greenbelt 3 with some of my kabarkada...and I noticed that my right heel was "imbalanced" haha...I can't look down to check because we were standing outside the resto waiting for the others to arrive....and I was thinking was I just imagining that...

and when we eventually entered the resto and sat...I got the chance to fumble and check my boots...grrrrrrrr! as in loose yung right heel ko...it was a thick heel...you can just imagine...di uubra ang Mentos dito! haha remember that?

Nagtext ako agad sa ka-ofcmates ko...I ranted and said...Punyemas! nasira boots ko!...they replied and told me to head to Landmark while it's still open...

It was a good thing we were still waiting for our other friends to arrive...so I made my excuse...bibili lang ako ng gamot haha...and headed off to wherever my boots will take me...

I tried checking out GB3!

Mentos diba! haha Kaso ang kapal ng heels ko so I really had to do something...

I walked fast and headed to Landmark na talaga...buti at bukas pa sila...at ang 2nd flr nila andun na ung shoes diba...so yun...hanap ako agad...wala na akong pake...basta kaya ng budget...

I ended up buying this simple sandals worth P500! Busit! Mahirap kasi makahanap ng size ko at good thing yun 2nd na sinukat ko nagkasya na agad...so yun na binili ko!

The rest of the pipol might notice my absence...kaya I had to rush back to the resto...

Sa Greenbelt 3...Hanap ako ng CR...I switched shoes there...I placed my rotten boots inside the box...and contentedly dropped it inside the trash bin...walked out and headed back to the resto...

Phew!

There's something about shoes, walking and Makati that doesn't quite gel with me I don't know why hahahaha...
