DREAM ON - Chapter 2, A Day In School

DREAM ON is a story about a boy who is transported back to the times of the gladiators in Rome... or was it? I can't quite recall anymore... I would be going through the story again as I retype it here...

DISCLAIMER: All scenes, characters, names and places that may be similar to real situations are all coincidental and are just made up by a 12-year old kid.

As they entered their respective classrooms, they were excitingly choosing their seat and at last they have chosen theirs.

They were all sitting on the two rows in the middle of the room.  Mikey say in front of Kate, beside her was her cousin Livie and behind them was Liza.  Beside Liza was a new seatmate.  Guess who?  It was the new boy in class.

As Liza saw this, she said to Livie, “It will be the worst semester for me in maybe five years.”

“Don’t worry! We still don’t know his personality,” exclaimed Kate.

“Ssssssh!  Here comes the teacher,” proclaimed Mikey.

As they sat on their seats, they saw the rosy cheeks of their teacher.  She had curly hair which she piled up on top of her head.  She was wearing a loose dress which showed how thin she was.  As she gave a grin to the children, she said…

            “Good morning, class.”

Everyone answered, “Good morning!” upon rising from their seats.

“Okay let me introduce myself,” the teacher said as she wrote her name on the board.

“My name is Miss Michelle A. Austin, your new teacher for this semester,” she said smiling.

“One more thing before I forget.  I’ll check the attendance, okay,” she said.

            “Yes, ma’am,” they all answered.

“Okay, I’ll call out your name and just answer me,” Ms. Austin said.

            “Lawrence.”

            “Present,” she answered.

            “Miller.”

            “Here, ma’am,” Mikey said.

            “Roberts.”

            “Present,” she retorted.

            “Smith.”

            “Present,” Livie answered.

As she called almost all of the pupils she called out…

            “Lance.”

            “Present,” the new boy answered.

“So are you the new boy in class?” Ms. Austin asked.

            “Yes, ma’am,” the boy answered.

“What’s your real name?” she asked.

“Jeremy.  Jeremy Lance, ma’am,” he said.

“Oh! So that’s his name,” Liza said.

After the teacher finished checking the attendance, she gave the class an activity.

“Hey Mikey!  Why aren’t you answering your book?” Kate asked.

“Oh nothing… It’s just that…” his words cut off.

            “What?” Kate asked eagerly.

            “Oh never mind,” Mikey exclaimed.

But there is something whirling in his mind.  It could be about his dream?!

He said to himself, “Our teacher looks familiar.  She looks like the one in my dreams.  But how…” his words drifted into space as he went back to answering his book.

As they finished, Ms. Austin asked for a volunteer.

“Okay Jeremy, please answer the first item,” the teacher instructed.

As Jeremy stood up and answered loudly, the students murmured…

“He answers very well,” said Mikey.

“Yeah he does look intelligent,” Livie said impressed.

“I am impressed!  Do you believe that Livie will have a new partner?” Kate said jokingly.

“Well, I’m not impressed.  He looks weird,” proclaimed Liza.

“Let’s introduce ourselves,” Livie said sweetly.

“Ohhhh how sweet of you!” Kate said laughing.

            “Ha! Very funny!” Livie answered.

“Stop that.  Just listen,” protested Mikey.

After a few minutes, the bell rang for their recess and in no time, the children were noisily running through the halls of the school.

“Hurry up, Livie,” Liza shouted.  “You’re such a turtle!”

“Be patient, Liza.  I’m just getting my sandwich,” exclaimed Livie.

“We might lose our place at the playground,” Mikey proclaimed.

“Okay I’m ready… how about a race?” she said.

            “At my signal… Ready…set…go!”

And quickly they darted through the exit of their school.  As they reached their place they were all gasping for breath.

“I win!  Me, the great Liza wins!” she said proudly.

“There goes her mouth again,” Kate said.  “Well never mind.  Let’s eat!”

“Oh and LIvie…” Liza paused.  “Who are you looking at?”

“I’m just looking at our new classmate,” proclaimed Livie.

“Yeah but he looks weird and looks friendly.  Let’s talk to him,” retorted Mikey.

“Why don’t we invite him to eat with us?” Livie uttered.

“Why not… let’s go,” he said.

“Do you want to join us?” she asked.

“No.  We’ll just wait for you guys here,” exclaimed Kate.

“Okay if you say so,” Mikey said.

As they left their spot, they walked towards Jeremy, who was sitting on a bench nearby.

“Hi, Jeremy, my name is Livianne.  You can call me Livie,” she said sweetly.

“Nice to meet you, Livie,” Jeremy said as he shook the stretched hand of Livie.

“Well my name is Mikey,” he retortred.

“Thank you for being so nice to me,” proclaimed Jeremy.

“No problem.  What are new friends for,” said LIvie.

“What are you reading?  May I borrow it?” Mikey asked.

“How to go back in time through your dreams…” he read.  “Hmmmm… where did you get this?”

“Well I got it from my dad,” Jeremy answered.

“Could that be true?” asked Livie.

            “It could be…” Jeremy said.

As he said this, Kate and Liza were approaching them, carrying their sandwiches each biting one at a time.

“We were getting tired of waiting for you so we decided to come here,” Liza retorted.

“Oh Jeremy, we would like you to meet our other friends, Liza and Kate,” exclaimed Mikey.

“Hi, Jeremy!” the two girls said in succession.

“So now that we’ve met, we’ll all have a great semester ahead of us, Mikey proclaimed.

After some of their friendly chatting…

R-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-i-i-i-i-n-n-n-n-g-g-g-g-g! The bell rang for their next period.

As they heard this, they all got their things and were hurriedly walking up the stairs to their room.

As they sat in their seats, Ms. Austin gave them more activities.

As time passes, the bell rang for the last time.

“Okay class that’s the final bell.  Don’t forget to do your homework.  Class dismissed,” she retorted.

As they bid their goodbyes, they were all ready to go except…

"Come on, Mikey, lets get a move on,"  proclaimed Kate.

"What's bothering you?" asked Liza.

"Well it is that Ms. Austin looks familiar.  To tell you the truth ..." his words cut off.

"Let's talk about it on the way,"  protested LIvie.

As they darted through the sidewalk, Mikey continued his story...

"Last night, I had a nightmare. I saw someone who looks like Ms. Austin. And when I look at her, it’s just that, it seems like I'm looking at a mirror," Mikey said troubled.
"Yeah, it's true, you do have a resemblance," proclaimed Liza.

"What are you going to do about it?" Jeremy asked sympathetically.

"I'll better talk about it with my parents," he said.

A few minutes later, they reached the house of Mikey. After they bid their goodbyes, Mikey entered their house and dragging his bag inside. When he opened the door, he smelled cooking sausages and steaks coming from the kitchen.

"Hi, Mom, what’s the food for this evening?" he asked.

"We'll have sausages and steaks for dinner," said Mikey.

"Hmmmm! My mouth is watering already," uttered Mikey.

"Before that, go upstairs and get dressed.  Finish your homework before your father arrives," the housewife said.

"Yes, Mom," Mikey said as he quickly climbed up the stairs to his room.

He opened his cabinet and got his black blazer printed with his initials. After wearing that, he went down and turned on the television as he waited for his dad.

Goodness! How does a 12-year old properly converse with people and at the same time keep track of grammar and sentences while writing?! This isn't graded for crying out loud! hahaha Still cringing each time 😝
