What I do at work...

This morning, I just finished with another round of admissions testing for our primary grade school level...

I currently work in a school and I handle the admissions testing of new students...

Their requirements is to come bringing their pencil, snacks, together with their test permit of course, allowing them to take the entrance test...

I had 5 students earlier and they tested my patience in as much as they were quite talkative and wanted to share whatever is in their minds... Good thing they raised their hands first and waited to be called and then they are allowed to talk...

We finished the test earlier than I anticipated for a big group... I usually have just around 4 girls - yes I work in an exclusive girls school...

They were smart to begin with... it would just be challenging for their teachers to reign in their attention since they get to be distracted often...

I say... good luck to their future teachers! via Daily Prompt: Permit

DREAM ON - Chapter 1, Of Things To Come

As I mentioned in my previous post, I plan to re-type the short story I did when I was in grade school, summer of grade 6 if I am not mistaken so that is around summer of 1990.
It's that old!
So can you just imagine the mindset of a 12-year old.  I wrote this because I was envious of a classmate who wrote stories too and she's the better writer then.

DREAM ON is a story about a boy who is transported back to the times of the gladiators in Rome... or was it? I can't quite recall anymore... I would be going through the story again as I retype it here...

DISCLAIMER: All scenes, characters, names and places that may be similar to real situations are all coincidental and are just made up of a 12-year old kid.

“Dream on, dream away,” Mikey sang as he was listening to the radio trying to knock himself to sleep.

Within minutes he was snoring loudly after a hard day’s work at school.

            “Mikey…Mikey…Mikey!” said his mom.

“He always leaves the lights on.  I better turn it off.”

She immediately turned it off and in a snap Mikey woke up screaming.

            “Aaaaaaah! Help! Help!” Mikey screamed.

“Mikey, wake up!” You’re only having a nightmare!  Wake up!” shouted Mrs. Williams.  Immediately  after saying this, she slapped Mikey on the face and quickly, Mikey was back to his senses.

“Mom, I’m glad to see you!” said Mikey relieved.

“What happened?” asked his mom waiting for an answer.

At that moment Mr. Williams was dashing to the room of Mikey curious of what is happening.

“What’s going on here?” asked Mr. Williams.

“Mikey had a nightmare!” said Mrs. Williams.

“What was it all about?” asked Mr. Williams.

“It was a bad one, Dad.  It was so dark and then I saw a figure pleading for help.  Somewhat an old man with chains both tied on his wrists and ankles.  I was with him in a small dark cell filled with the sound of squeaking rats.  Outside the bars of the cell, I heard screams of people in fear.  In one corner, I saw a guard.  He had an armor, like that of the early Romans.  After seeing this, there was again darkness.  Then I woke up.”

“What could that mean?” asked Mikey eagerly.

“We don’t know son, we don’t know!” his mom said consolingly.

“Come on let’s talk about this tomorrow.  We need enough rest tonight for tomorrow we need to get up early”, exclaimed Mikey’s dad.

            “Yes, Dad!” he answered.

“Sleep tight,” his mom said as she tucked Mikey into bed.

“Good night,” they said to each other.

The next day, they all woke up early.

Mrs. Williams was already cooking bacon, eggs and sausages and was toasting bread in their medium-sized kitchen.  It was filled with cabinets made out of oak tress.  It also had a round glass table in the middle of the kitchen and it was decorated with a vase filled with colourful daisies.  It also had China properlu fixed on the table waiting for hungry people.

“HI, Mom” Mikey said upon reaching the kitchen.

“What’s for breakfast, Mom?” asked Mikey as he kissed his mom.

“Just sit down and wait for your food,” retorted the lovely housewife.

“Yes, Mom” uttered the twelve year old boy as he sat down on his place at the table.

“Hi, Dear” Mr. Williams said as he kissed his lovely wife.

“Ready for work, sweetheart?” she asked.

“I’m as ready as always, Dear” Mr. Williams said as he opened his paper to his favorite page.

“Before anything else, let’s eat!” proclaimed Mrs. Williams.

“Hmmmmm it tastes great!  You really can cook, Mom even better than a chef in a five star hotel!” exclaimed the young boy.

“Okay now, finish your food.  You’ll be late for school,” she said.

“Oh Mom, before I forget, what can you make about my dream last night?” he asked.  “Mom, are you even listening?”

“Huh! Oh I’m sorry.  I wasn’t paying attention; I’m amazed with my own cooking,” she said as she took a bite on her bread.

“Dear, why don’t you bring Mikey to school?” she asked.

“Yes of course, Dear.  After I finish this article,” proclaimed Mr. Williams.

“What is the article all about, Dad?” Mikey asked.

“Huh? Oh it’s all about how you can go back in time through your dreams,” Mr. Williams answered.

“Do you believe in that, Dear?” his wife asked.

“Let’s see, it could be true,” protested Mr. Williams.  “Well we have to get going.”

            “Bye, Mom,” Mikey said.

“See you, Dear,” his wife answered.

As they stepped into their car, Mikey asked a sad question,  “Dad, I want to ask you something,” he said.

“What is it?” Mr. Williams asked.

“I know I’m only an adopted child and I like you and mom very much but I think I’m at the right age for me to know who my parents are,” Mikey said.

“Don’t worry, you’ll get to meet them…in time,” Mr. Williams said.

As he said this, he turned the key of the ignition and started the engine.  They darted onto the road and they were on their way.

As he stepped out of the car, he his dad a kiss and he was hurrying to the gates of the school.

As he darted through the gates of the school, he met his friends, Kate Lawrence, Liza Roberts and Livianne Smith.

“Hi, Mikey, what’s up?” Livie asked.

“Everything that’s up must come down, as we all know,” the humorous Kate said.

            “Well nothing much,” Mikey answered.

“Well it’s another day… another day of learning what the word BORED really means,” Liza said the grouchiest amongst the friends.

“Well it’s another dumb, stupid and ugghhh-ly day!” exclaimed Kate.

In the middle of their conversation, they saw a new face coming their way.

“Who is that boy?” Liza asked.

“I think he is our new classmate,” well-briefed Livie said.

“How did you know that?” asked Mikey.

“Don’t you know that Livie is our walking newspaper.  She knows everything; in and out of the school,” Kate said.

“I would like to give her a name for that, I’ll her Switchboard,” exclaimed Liza.

“Ha ha very funny,” she said.

After a few minutes of their conversation, the morning bell rang.  Each other waved goodbye to their friends and went to their respective classrooms; starting a new day of their semester.

Author's note: Gawd! If I were an English teacher now I would not accept this based on its first chapter hahaha Remember I was 12 years old then.... and retyping it now I lost count how many times I kept cringing at my choice words

Amateur writing at age 12

I remember that I had a short story, which I wrote way back in grade school, and which I have been wanting to post online.

Why?

Because the paper where I typed it using an old electric typewriter is yellowed with age...

Since the internet has been the online journal or haven of most writers nowadays, I just thought why not just put it online just for it to be "stored" in the big digital cloud out there 😁

And no... This is the only story I have ever written since I have discovered that I have no patience or creativity to come up with more so...

I would rather read, appreciate and critique others which for me is more fun I guess...

So I plan to retype the story here, verbatim - well with edits like the spelling and grammar of course since what does a 12 year old in the 1990s know back then - a chapter at a time...
Can you guess what's the title of the short story I made?

It's a popular song then of Color Me Badd hahaha and you look carefully at the photos above, you'll see it 😉

I so like Ji Chang-Wook (my appreciation of Korean dramas in a nutshell)

I am really not that much of a fan of Korean drama but I get to watch whenever the mood strikes me or whenever a friend, who is a hallyu fan, would really recommend or convince me to watch some kseries...

When I have nothing else to watch or have nothing else to do then I might just go ahead and watch online...

I have watched a few Korean dramas which have been shown locally on TV...
I watched the old ones a few years back... Endless Love, Winter Sonata, Stairway to Heaven,
Coffee Prince, Full House...
Sorry if I didn't get the English titles right and I don't really know the Korean titles...

Let's fast forward to last year when I was convinced to watch this hyped Korean drama at the time... Descendants of the Sun...

And by gawd!
It is so good I finished the whole series in 3 days!
I have a new oppa!

And of course who would not love the now married SongSong couple...

Song Joong-ki and Song Hye Kyo are just so beautiful...

And I watched a few more series I think...
Like that Secret Romance, which was a cute story, before I finally got down to watching this drama series which again was popular that time (and has been shown locally twice already) - Goblin.

At first it was a uniquely weird story for me but as most kdrama series it got me hooked into watching it until the end.

What surprised me too was I initially didn't quite like the pairing between Gong Yoo and the female lead because she was obviously young, but by gawd this scene convinced me (see below) and I loved that series!

This for me is one series, together with DOTS, that I don't mind replaying all over again.

Ok so during the recent holidays, since I rarely watch TV, my other recourse is to watch movies online or series... So I caught up with a few Pinoy movies that I liked...
I even listed it down in my new journal to keep track of them...

And watched another Korean drama that just finished a couple months before -
While You Were Sleeping, and like any series for me it is another original
or at least a well thought of story...
You have got to watch the local series on TV for you to understand when I say "original"...

Since this series is about a prosecutor, I got interested to watch this other series that my friend has been raving about... Suspicious Partner (Love in Trouble)

And let me tell you...

THIS IS WHEN I STARTED TO LIKE THIS MALE LEAD!!!

Let me backtrack, I watch Korean dramas and hardly take note of the actors' names and I just identify them by their characters or series, except for Gong Yoo, Song Joong-ki and his Song Hye Kyo and finally I now add another name to my list of notable Korean actors - Ji Chang-Wook!

I kept telling my friend and my boss who is more of a kpop fan, that this is the only series that I would stop every minute and just stare dumbfounded at the guy 😳

Gawd! As my friend said... I have a new oppa 😂

And whenever I am fascinated about someone, I try and watch more of his shows...
And so I watched his movie Fabricated City

This convinced me that he is indeed an action star!
You go and watch that movie because the story and visual effects is good...
And btw it's the first time for me to watch a Korean movie...
Well after Train to Busan that is 😂

And my favorite series of his so far...   The K2!

And by gawd another series which I finished in a short span of days if only I didn't have work to interrupt my viewing 😂 I finished all 16 episodes in 4 days, after work and before sleeping of course...

Also what makes me like this series is the female villain...
She is like our Cherie Gil (local actress who is so amazing as a villain)

Song Yoon-ah is so amazing in the series I wanted her to succeed in the end...
But of course that would not be the case so... Better watch the series to know what happened to her character ...

Despite the series having it's own romantic angle, of course we can't forget that... I took note of the episodes with the action scenes and whenever Wooki and Song would be in the same frame!

I had to make screnshots of my favorite scene - the umbrella scene

The action sequence before this scene is good too he didn't muss his hair 😂

What I realized too is that I like Wooki with his hair brushed up but I still find him.handsome in any way... Here's the last scene of Song and Wooki together in the series...

Until the end of this series, I kept stopping and staring at him, muttering to myself - ang gwapo nya talaga (he is so handsome)!

And now even tough I am watching a new drama series, another popular one that recently finished in Korea - I Am Not A Robot, I plan to go back and watch Wooki's other series, The Healer too...

At least until he gets out of his military service then I guess I will get to see him more by then...

Coloring by numbers

Day 3 of my socmed hiatus and I am really trying to change my habits...
So yesterday after work, before watching my usual kdrama online,
I colored a page from my sister’s coloring book... I didn’t finish the whole page but it was enough for me...
This morning though when I woke up, I grabbed my phone to check and as usual it has been quiet...
So I opened the coloring by numbers game I have installed on my ipad and did a few...
I already did a few when I first installed the app

And I discovered something...
I can color using photos taken by my camera!
Hahahaha
I did a few of my face and gawd it is not easy!
It would really take time...
If they did not have to call me in for lunch I would not stop and take a break from it

So I wonder how long will I last with this one until I get bored again and look for some other game to kill time...
Perhaps going back to my pending reads...

Will get back to you on that...

It took me to do a socmed hiatus to blog again

As the title says...
I'm back to posting here because I promised myself
that I wouls let go of social media - particularly Twitter and Facebook
and even Instagram and just stay connected thru messenger apps,
email and text.
Gawd! When I first thought about it I thought I would literally cry...
I have been immersed in socmed esp because of my fangurling
for the past 2 years and yeah I fuess I would have to recalibrate
and change my habits so as not to be too dependent...
As you can see I haven't been blogging like I used to...
There are alot of other hobbies or habits I let go in lieu of my fangirling
and socmed...
But I guess this isn't counted as socmed...
I plan to chronicle my days off socmed...

Today is Day 2

I decided to start early instead of starting on Ash Wednesday because
something personal came up and I had ro immediately attend to it
So this prompted me to deactivated earlier than I first planned...
I said goodbye for now to a few of my contacts online so they would know
at least that I did not die haha

So this morning, instead of my usual habit of going online on Twitter to
be updated, I just checked Viber messages I missed during the night and then
What else to kill time? I installed a coloring by numbers app haha
I colored a few until I had to be picked up and go to school...

I downloaded a few news site app kn my phone, Twitter has been my
newspaper ever since so I need alternatives during this hiatus to be updated.

I also thought of blogging about this hiatus and so I downloaded the blogger
app too

And I am on the way to work now while I am writing this on my phone
Adding a screenshot for you to see what I am doing at the passenger seat haha

And so... In a few minutes I will be at work so I won't need to go online much except for work so I have a whole day to get my mind off my socmed hiatus...
Sort of like those withdrawal pangs people go through haha...

I can do this!
One day at

It took me a year to blog again...

I remembered to check my blog and lo and behold...
My last post was more than a year ago...
so what happened?
I guess I was too stuck on other socmed platforms like Twitter and Instagram to bother much and sit down and really blog about something...
Or perhaps...
Taking time out to write about something is not what it used to be for me...

I don't know...
I usually post something because I feel like it...
Well check out my Twitter feed and IG and you'll know that I have been busy fangirling over
this phenomenal loveteam from the Philippines... that's a different matter altogether...

Anyway...
what is there to talk about?
My life is still the same old same boring one from last year...

My birthday last Wednesday just passed like usual...
Stayed home and ate with family to celebrate...
Maybe perhaps as you grow older... celebrating doesn't matter much...
Or I I said to myself I celebrated my birthday last month already with a trip to Boracay so...

When I came back to work yesterday and treated my ofcmates for lunch...
One of them asked me... what was my birthday wish...
And off the bat I answered...

For time to stop...

Of course as expected you can't stop my ofcmate with such a vague answer as that without her prodding me a bit more...

I just said that that was the first thing that popped in my head...
I don't know what I would've answered if I were given more time to ponder on it...

So of course my other ofcmates just had to ask more...

And I had the time to rethink my answer...

Perhaps what I meant...
I wish I had no worries in the world...
I wish I can have more than a day to do things or not to do things...
I wish that time would stop and the day will not end...
I wish that I didn't have to care much about whatever or whoever...
I wish I can be so carefree...
I wish simply for time to stop...

Perhaps it's because I am getting old...
